I'm Matthew Lee, and this is my passion project. Matthew Lee and the Standbys started as a yearly cabaret; turning rock songs into theatrical pieces while putting a hard rock spin on musical theatre favorites. Eventually, I decided to take the best work of the last few years and record two albums; Busking Broadway and Another Round -= which leads to where we are now. Originally from Indianapolis, I've been anchored in NYC for the better part of the last decade hammering away at my guitar, piano, and whatever instrument I can get my hands on. I've always wanted to find a way to fuse my love of classical music, contemporary musical theatre and rock; wanted to make the ideas of each of these genres accessible to its respective opposite's audiences. The band comprises some of my favorite dudes in the city - we strive to create an eccentric yet cohesive blend of all different styles of rock - From Ludo to Foo Fighters; from Meatloaf to Misfits.
